What Is SPRAVATO®?
SPRAVATO® is a ketamine-based, psychedelic prescription nasal spray that is taken along with an oral antidepressant. It works by increasing glutamate, a naturally occurring chemical in the brain that helps transmit messages between brain cells. When glutamate is increased, communication between brain cells is improved, which positively affects mood.
SPRAVATO® works quickly, so people with depression can feel better within hours. This is so important, because other depression treatments can often take a long time to work, may not provide enough relief, or may not provide relief at all.

Who Should Use SPRAVATO®?
When you contact our caring, experienced behavioral health clinicians, they will work with you to see if esketamine treatment is right for you.
Typically, you are a good candidate for SPRAVATO® if:
- You have hard-to-treat depression. This means you have been prescribed at least 2 different antidepressants, but have not felt any significant improvement.
- You have major depressive disorder with suicidal thoughts.
If SPRAVATO® is right for you, it will be prescribed along with your oral antidepressant medication.
How Is SPRAVATO® Administered?
Because SPRAVATO® is a psychedelic treatment medication, it must be taken on an outpatient basis at CareWell Health. Our program is a certified Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program, and our team is specially trained to monitor the use of SPRAVATO®. In a private room, and under the instruction of a skilled and caring clinician, you will administer the nasal spray to yourself.
SPRAVATO® treatment consists of 3 sprays, spaced 5 minutes apart. You will be here for about 2 hours. Our team will make sure you are properly cared for, including monitoring you for any side effects.
