CareWell Health Medical Center is a world-class community hospital serving Essex County, a place where every patient is family. Formerly known as East Orange General Hospital, we are the sole independent, acute care hospital in Essex County – and deeply proud to be a cornerstone of care for nearly 120 years. 

A Message from Our CEO

I come to CareWell Health as a physician first. That perspective shapes how this hospital is run. The people who come through our doors are not cases or census numbers. They are our neighbors in East Orange and across Essex County, and caring for them is the reason CareWell exists.

We are a community hospital in the fullest sense. We care for the people around us, and we do it close to home. A community is healthiest when good medicine is available nearby, in a hospital that is rooted here and intends to stay. That is what we are building.

What sets us apart is that clinicians lead it. The physicians and nurses who set direction here are the same ones at the bedside. When the people making decisions are accountable to patients first, the quality of care follows.
