CareWell Health Medical Center Continues Legacy of Serving Vulnerable Communities for Over a Century

EAST ORANGE, NJ – March 14, 2024 – CareWell Health Medical Center proudly celebrates its longstanding commitment to providing essential healthcare services to the underserved communities of East Orange, Orange, Irvington, Newark, and beyond for nearly 120 years. As of Monday, March 11, 2024 CareWell Health welcomes its newest addition to the family: a fully renovated Outpatient Physical Therapy Department located at 240 Central Ave.

Established as a beacon of hope and healing, CareWell Health has emerged as the largest private employer in East Orange, NJ, with a dedicated team of 755 employees and over 250 compassionate doctors. Notably, more than 70% of our medical staff identify as black or African American, reflecting our deep-rooted commitment to diversity and inclusion.

As a vital safety net hospital, CareWell Health remains steadfast in its mission to serve the most vulnerable populations of Essex County. Year after year, we witness approximately 30,000 emergency department visits and provide critical care to 5,000 inpatient admissions. Moreover, our holistic approach extends to mental health services, where we actively support 1,200 active behavioral health patients, including adults and children.

Recognizing the pressing need for addiction treatment, CareWell Health has expanded its services to accommodate nearly 1,200 substance use patients annually. Despite facing financial challenges, we stand firm in our dedication to ensuring access to quality care for all, with only 6% of our patients possessing adequate insurance coverage.

“As we commemorate nearly 120 years of service, CareWell Health remains unwavering in our commitment to providing compassionate care to those who need it most,” said Paige Dworak, CEO of CareWell Health Medical Center. “We are immensely proud of our diverse team and the profound impact we continue to make in the lives of individuals and families throughout Essex County.”

As we embark on the next chapter of our journey, CareWell Health reaffirms its pledge to uphold the principles of integrity, compassion, and excellence in healthcare delivery.
